Some domineering people feel that it is their duty to manage other people's sense of duty; and to challenge negligent people who do not fulfill their duties as the domineering people are convinced that other people should fulfill their duties --- as defined unilaterally by the domineering people. What can we do to respond most helpfully to domineering people who claim that we have been negligent by failing to do our duty? 1. We can seek to clarify among ourselves our duties as humans to be truthful, honest, gracious, civil, hospitible and dedicated to peacemaking so as to promote personal and communal integrations and integrities; and then call upon domineering people to do likewise among themselves. 2. We can in positive ways affirm our own honest beliefs, convictions and goals related to promoting both personal and communal integrations and integrities; and then call upon domineering people to do likewise. 3. We can clarify WHY it is that we believe that it is helpful to be: truthful, honest, gracious, civil, hospitible and dedicated to peacemaking; and then ask domineering people what their complemen- tary and/or contrasting beliefs are --- so that we may all better understand each other's reasons for affirming what we affirm in words and deeds most coherently. 4. We can help bystanders to learn to understand the differences between us as peacemakers and others as domineering people; and how to give due to consideration to each different person.
