Physical attacks as in a. Wars, b. Terrorists' destructive works, c. Defensive people's violence, d. Addicts and codependent peoples' mutual abuse, e. Bullies on school playgrounds, f. Sexual abuse in "intimate" relationships. 2. Psychological attacks on our self-esteem/pride. 3. Political attacks on our communication rights. 4. Academic attacks on the integrities of learers. 5. Attacks on the integrity of our spiritual lives. 6. Attacks on the integrity of our friendships. 7. Attacks on the integrity of our intimacies. 8. Attacks on our colors/ethnic origins. 9. Attacks on which languages we use in dialogues. 10. Attacks on the integrity of our creative works. Of course discerning, perceptive and/or creative people can list other foci of attacks. The central point here is that it is helpful to recognize, name, and describe legitimate realities which merit respect, honor and support --- that are often the focus of attacks by domineering people. In the absence of such clarifications of what it is that domineering people attack --- they have more power over us than they would have in the presence of such clarifications which we have the power to share with each other; in private if necessary. To protect our diverse forms of integrities we must ourselves recognize, name, and describe legitimate realities which merit respect, honor and support --- but are often the focus of attacks by domineering people. It is important for us to recognize, name and describe how some of the "less objectionable" kinds of attacks lay the foundations for the "more objectionable" kinds of attacks. Our failure to recognize, name and describe those connections --- lays the foundations for all such kinds of attacks. We need to discern and describe the motivations for such attacks, and then work to transcend and transform such motivations. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
