Sometimes fault-finders may be domineering people probing for points of vulnerability in other domineering people who are their equals in domination; or perhaps, even more domineering than themselves. Fault-finders who are not working within a well defined discipline are likely to be of the above kinds. The are not dedicated to promoting personal and communal integrity; but rather to some form of self-advancement, the nature of which may not be clear. They are rarely truly dedicated to personal and communal integrity. Well trained and well disciplined "quality-control" specialists are "fault-finders" of quite a different temperament and character. They are not motivated by preoccupations with domination and being in control of other persons. They are dedicated in gracious ways to monitor the quality of some products and/or relationships --- to facilitate appropriate efforts to improve the quality of the products and/or the relationships. They are often dedicated to personal and communal integrity in ways which merit honor, respect and praise. Sometimes it may be helpful to use a pattern as a means for getting out of a box which has constrained our thinking and our asking of questions. The following suggests a pattern in terms of which by choices of items on a line or pair of lines; may be combined with each other, to yield a question which may be outside of a traditional box: Can, should, must, may, etc. We, you, I, others, the church, the state, etc. Control, command, dominate, permit, tolerate, etc. People to: Be different, Feel differently, Think differently, Set priorities differently, Desire different kinds of pleasures/fulfillment, Have different goals, Affirm different/complementary --- values, ideals, principles, perspective, attitudes, virtues, kinds-of-reverence, Manage conformity, Demand conformity, Transcend conformity, Subvert conformity, Stereotype and label others, Demand either/or answers to questions.
