If we pretend complex unhealthy contexts are simple and/or healthy ---we are in deep trouble! In a simple situation the "players" in the drama of our life might include: self, partner, parent(s), family, tribe, religious community, and governmental entities. Each "player" may be in some degree: healthy, helpful, understanding, integrative; or unhealthy, collusive, addictive, dishonest, arrogant, self-righteous, and/or domineering. "Advice" to self and other about how to respond to whatever combination of circumstances is present --- is not easy to give with integrity, grace and sensitivity. At the best we are confronted with circumstances which are far more complex and ambiguous than most leaders care to admit. Few general rules or commandments can be articulated which fit with integrity, grace and sensitivity in all circumstances. Matters are made worse when we and/or other pretend otherwise. Yet people may object if we do not pretend otherwise. That makes matters worse. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
