When people pretend that all their ideals, values, principles and laws are of equal importance --- they are bound to experience conflict, coercion, violence, dishonesty, collusive games of mutual self-deception and both personal and communal disintegration. Such pretense is dishonest and so is disintegrative. It is essential to integrity to acknowledge that some ideals, values, principles and laws are more essential to both personal and communal integrity than are others; e.g.: 1. Seek pleasure, enjoyment and good times together but only so long as in doing so you show honest respect for each other's deepest desires, experiences, descriptions, fears, hopes and visions. 2. Seek to engage in profitable work and trade --- but only so long as in doing so you refrain from deceptions, dishonesty, lying, cheating, extortion, coercion and violence. 3. Explore new places, relationships, ideas, ideals, values, principles and alternative possibilities --- but only so long as in doing so you show honest respect for other people's boundaries, interests, desires, concerns and fears. 4. Seek to increase your knowledge, skills, powers and achievements --- but only so long as in doing so you refrain from playing collusive games of mutual self deception. 5. Advance your perceptions, beliefs, convictions and causes --- with enthusiasm, energy, and confidence --- but only so long as you are also openly and publicly committed to balance, honesty, gentleness, kindness, generosity, and integrative relationships. 6. Take pride in what you do well and think well of your successes in achieving what you set out to do --- but only so long as in doing so you are open, honest, and responsive to others who point out the costs to them and the integrity of others and their communities --- which you impose through your efforts. 7. Seek to excel and exceed in doing what is creative, new, and admirable --- but not at the expense of others who have less power, advantages, skills, knowledge and resources. Do not steal. 8. Be better than others in what you believe, support, and do --- but not in efforts to make others receive less respect, honor, and support. 9. Defend your own integrity and the integrity of your own family, tribe, clan, community, religion, city, state and nation --- but do not threaten or attack the healthy integrity of other people or of their families, tribes, clans, communities, religions, cities, states and nations. 10. Seek to do what has previously been thought to be impossible --- but not when the only way to appear to do so requires you to play collusive games of mutual self- deception about human limitations with respect to... 1. human life-times, resources, knowledge, skills, and powers; and with respect to... 2. natural spaces, resources, energy sources, and laws; and with respect to... 3. imbalances with regards to human relationships.
