They would threaten our collusive games of mutual self-deception which are of ultimate importance to us; e.g., our collusions regarding: complex relationships, human limitations, limited resources, addictions, codependence, death, etc. 2. They would embarrass us in ways which we are not mature enough to deal with gracefully; e.g., in regards to sexual relationships, failures, ignorance, confusion. 3. Our language skills and vocabulary are not adequate to facilitate the articulation of the insights and understandings; e.g., inadequate mathematical skills. 4. We are operating under assumptions and/or beliefs which are contrary to the new insights and understandings; e.g, regarding earth's geography and origins, astronomical evolution, biological evolution, elements, compounds, space, time and matter. 5. We are prejudiced, misinformed, confused, or operating in terms of misinterpretations and limiting attitudes --- in ways which block our acceptance of the new insights and understandings. 6. We are engaged in contentious debates, battles, conflicts and/or relationships which distract us and/or make us feel threatened by the new insights and/or understandings. 7. We are insecure, defensive, and/or fearful of growth and change, and experience new insights and understandings as threats to our efforts to achieve security and/or salvation for ourselves and/or those nearest and dearest ones. 8. We are operating within exclusive paradigms and are prone to over-specialization, "either/or" thinking, dichotomous questioning, rejecting "different" people; e.g., not ever having seen respected models of people accepting new insights/understanding and ourselves being fearful of being rejected as "different". 9. We insist upon achieving new insights and understandings on the basis of our merit and work; and refuse to accept them as unearned gifts from any source. 10.
