Salvation comes through the fulfillment of compulsive preoccupations with conformity to laws, commandments, proscriptions, prescriptions and taboos. 2. Salvation is enjoyed by people who through some miracle of Love are liberated from the prisons of compulsive preoccupations with conformity---and find that they can fulfill the integrative possibilities of good laws by transcending legalistic preoccupations with laws. Jesus of Nazareth was in conflict with the religious leaders of his day---because many of the religious leaders were compulsively preoccupied with all of the legalistic details of their religious laws. Jesus preached a gospel of liberation and healing of people who were burdened by disintegrative preoccupations with conformity to laws, commandments, proscriptions, prescriptions and taboos. Jesus shows indifference towards laws which the idolatrous religious leaders worshipped. His indifference and failure to worship the laws was underscored by his presumptuous way of talking about his personal relationship with God---blasphemous familiarity as if God were a Loving Father rather than a King addicted to the enforcement of an endless list of legalistic minutia. Within Christianity there are many religious leaders who contend that through the birth, life and death of Jesus of Nazareth---the God of Love liberated all of his Children from the prisons of compulsive preoccupations with all the legalistic minutia of law. Within Christianity there are many other religious leaders who continue to be compulsively preoccupied with the necessity of fulfilling all the details of legalistic laws---in order to become acceptable in the eyes of their conception of a King God who is addicted to the enforcement of their endless list of legalistic minutia. The conflict continues. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
