Suppose the fruits of an ultimate commandment, injunction or prohibition has had for many people and many years been personal and communal disintegration. Is there any logic or reason by which such an ultimate commandment, injunction or prohibition can be worthy of respect, support and/or worship? How could there be? Each ultimate commandment, injunction or prohibition which IS worthy of respect, support and/or worship must exist within the consciousness of some community AND person of integrity. It could not exist only within one person of integrity---for no person of integrity can exist in total isolation for all communities. It could not exist within only one community of integrity but not within other communities; and not within any individual persons---for communities are interdependent with each other and with their individual members. AGAIN: Each ultimate commandment, injunction or prohibition which is worthy of respect, support and/or worship must exist within the consciousness of some community AND person of integrity. It follows that if respect and support for an ultimate commandment, injunction or prohibition leads to the disintegration of the communities and persons of integrity which embody it; then it will no longer exist in any meaningful way. Thus we are fools if we respect and support any ultimate commandment, injunction or prohibition which is found through human experience to regularly lead to personal and communal integration. We are fools when because of some presumably "holy scriptures" or "holy institution" we respect such a disintegrative commandment, injunction or prohibition in spite of the fruits which it bears. To be people of integrity within communities of integrity we must respect and support ideals, values, commandments, injunctions and prohibitions which lead us and others into integrative (rather than disintegrative) relationships. If there are persistent conflicts within us individually, within our communities, and/or between our communities---and we fail to seek to resolve them to the mutual satisfaction of those affected by them---then we will not be and enjoy people and/or communities of integrity. True conflict resolution, peacemaking and the promotion of personal/communal integrity are all One with the Creative work of God as Love working with integrity. To fail to recognize this is to fail to know and be in communion with the ultimate powers of the universe. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
