Compensating for their lack of performance and/or failure to take good care of themselves; doing their job and/or taking care of them, when they should take good care of themselves. 2. Buying into their game of playing victim and overtly or tacitly supporting their view of themselves as victim---excusing them from doing for themselves, what only they can do for themselves. 3. Concealing from self and others the grim reality of the various dysfunctional/addictive behavior patterns, destructions, failures, self-deception, confusion, and dishonesty. 4. Working to make the dysfunctional person appear to be worthy of high levels of respect---above the levels of respect appropriate for most "average" persons. 5. Doing the bidding of the dysfunctional person even while recognizing that their bidding is dysfunctional, destructive, disintegrative, unjust, dishonest and often outright criminal in nature. 6. Willingly becoming an imitator of the dysfunctional persons' patterns of perceptions, attitudes, assumptions, beliefs, convictions and behaviors. 7. Willfully coercing others to become involved in and to engage in the dysfunctional patterns of perceptions, attitudes, assumptions, beliefs, convictions and behaviors. There are people trapped at various places in the above spectrum in situations, including: terrorists groups, inner city gangs, organized international crime, criminal business endeavors, political corruption, religious corruption, fanatical fundamentalism, corrupt professionals, technocratic extremists, etc. In each instance we need to learn how to recognize, name, describe, talk about, and respond with Love to the dishonest/disintegrative aspects of peoples' dysfunctional patterns of behavior---without buying into their ways of dealing with other people destructively; rather than constructively. If we deal with them in ways which are echoes of their ways---we have surrendered to them and become like them. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
