The phrase "Do as I say, not as I do" points to the importance of coherence between what we say and what we do. Integrative articulations are commonly supported/undermined by evident integrative/disintegrative behaviors which affirm/contradict what the articulations profess. 2. In the absence of clear articulations and of clear role models of some form of healthy behavior---it is often difficult to recognize that many behaviors would be healthy were they to be clearly modeled by anybody. 3. In the presence of patterns of un-healthy behavior which occur in the absence of contrasting articulations of a theory of personal and communal integrity---it is often difficult to recognize that the un-healthy patterns of behavior are un-healthy; or to recognize that contrasting healthy patterns of behavior would be healthy if they were to be clearly modeled by anybody. 4. People who clearly model healthy behavior which is not traditionally regarded as healthy; and which is not affirmed by any theory of what constitutes healthy behavior---are often regarded as trouble-makers who do not conform to comfortable patterns of behavior. Creative people are often regarded as trouble-makers. 5. Creative people who articulate helpful theories of what constitutes healthy-integrative behavior are often regarded as trouble-makers---because they upset many comfortable patterns of perceptions and of traditional respectability. 6. Creative people who role-model unusual healthy- integrative patterns of behavior are often regarded as trouble-makers---because they upset comfortable patterns of perceptions and of respectability. 7. Participants in collusive games of mutual self deception are distressed by role models and/or theorists who expose dishonesty by their behaviors and/or theories. Such participants are bound by the rules of their collusive games to seek to destroy and/or bury such creative role models and/or theorists. 8. Traditional conformal legalists/judgementalists cannot tolerate theories/behaviors which transcend their life-styles---for through transcendence they expose how shallow traditional life-styles, codes, commandments, rules, regulations and taboos really are. 9. These considerations are often very important in highly reflexive situations pertaining to intimate behaviors which entail sexual relationships and/or sexual possibilities; for it is not easy to articulate and/or demonstrate such behaviors without getting involved (and/or involving observers) in complications which are beyond the coping range of any who may get drawn in. Thus it is often taboo to publicly engage in or articulate any theory regarding such highly reflexive situations. For this reason the nature of personal and communal integrity are often kept obscure and secret---and group discussions and/or modeling of personal and communal integrity are repressed. 10. These considerations point to how it is that the public repression of public displays of intimacy and the public repression of public articulation of honest theories of healthy/integrative intimacy---lead often to public displays of coercion and violence---and to disintegrative affirmations of the propriety of respecting public displays of coercion and violence. A summary of research relevant to these considerations was published in Volume 31, Number 9 (November 1975), pp 10-20 of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. The author found a significant correlation between reported high levels of cultural violence and reported repression of body pleasures. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
