There is a great contrast between the pure research "success-stories" and the failures in the application of the findings of the successful pure research. The contrast may be noted at the individual level and at the national level. The nations (such as the USA) which are most successful in pure research are not as successful in instituting successful application of the findings of the research. The nations (such as Japan) which are most successful in applying the findings of pure research are not noted for successful pure research. The international imbalance-of- trade problems between the United States and Japan are closely related to this failure of pure researchers to be successful in promoting appropriate uses of the findings of their pure research. Pure researchers are trained in graduate schools, in programs which are dominated by pure researchers who were themselves trained to specialize in a very narrow way. Their educational system places great emphasis upon specialization, and progressively narrowing the focus of the attention of successive generations of students; upon being exclusive in focusing their attention. They promote the focusing of attention exclusively upon pure research, to the exclusion of having any interest in the application of the findings of the pure research. Students are not trained to look for profitable applications. The graduate school training programs place great emphasis upon transcending bias through objectivity. In keeping with the above noted emphasis upon narrow specialization, the the focus upon objectivity becomes very narrow and exclusive. Ideals and values which are complementary to objectivity are excluded from the curriculum, and students' consideration for lack of human individuals' time, energy and attention. When objectivity becomes important in an exclusive way it becomes important for people to deny the importance of activities which entail reflexive aspects which are clearly not objective in nature---and exclusivity becomes active in undermining the integrity of reflexive processes. Specialization promotes dichotomous thinking and if objectivity is good and supremely important then reflexive behaviors must be evil and to be avoided; i.e., excluded. When people have become exclusively objective they have great difficulty in reflecting upon the reflexive aspects of what they are doing; because exclusive objectivity calls for the elimination of reflection, meditation, prayer, evaluation, acknowledging mistakes, learning from mistakes, changing paradigms, etc. Success is a reflexive reality which compulsively objective people cannot talk about openly and honestly with integrity; for the criteria for success is essentially reflexive in nature, and talking about the criteria openly and honestly would expose the collusive games of mutual self-deception which are part of the success story of the paradigm of exclusive objectivity. To be successful in the objectivists' paradigm is to be a split personality. People who have traditionally supported objectivity with respect, praise and financial means need to look more carefully to see the consequences of their respect, praise and financial support.
