Their codependent followers and supporters then cannot acknowledge the errors, mistakes and failures of the leaders; and so cannot know in any meaningful way why they are disintegrating as persons and as communities. Responsible leaders are responsive to articulate critics and acknowledge their own errors, mistakes and failures; and thus empower their followers to know and give meaning to the insights of those critics who articulate what errors and mistakes have been made, and thereby wisely point to the natural reasons for tragic human failures to fulfill human potentials. Responsible leaders and critics are not preoccupied with legalistic rules, judgements and punishments. They are interested in acknowledging clear articulations of honest insights so that their followers may know and give human meaning to the truth about themselves and others. See the previous essay for more about "knowing". (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
