They and we do not regard ourselves as good/perfect enough to be accepted as persons into a secure family where listening, dialogue, conversation and talk are open and honest; where we can be safely vulnerable. We are often lacking in healthy self esteem and often trying to justify ourselves in our own eyes and in the eyes of others. The birth, life, teachings, attitudes, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth reveals that we can regain personal and communal integrity only when we give up trying to justify ourselves. We can enjoy personal and communal integrity only when we regard each other as permanent members God's Holy Family, members who are inherently and permanently worthy of being accepted as imperfect persons. In this way we can be encouraged to engage in listening, dialogue, conversations and talk that are open, honest and charitable---by being given the gift of being free to be safely vulnerable as imperfect permanent members of God's Holy Family. So long as we are motivated by desires/compulsions to justify ourselves, so long we engage in futile and alienative attempts to control each other and ourselves. We alienate ourselves from each other, from ourselves and from God through collusive games of mutual self deception, multiple addictions and futile dishonest efforts to rescue dysfunctional people who refuse to be honest about why their lives are so messed up. We can be set from such motivations, desires and compulsions only by accepting the fact that there is no God-given reason for us to try to justify ourselves in any way. The only reasons we have for trying to justify ourselves in our many and varied ways are reasons which flow from other people trying to justify themselves in dysfunctional ways just as we are. It is all very trying! It is time to give up trying to justify ourselves in each other's eyes and/or in the eyes of God. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
