     We  often tend to forget that we cannot force anybody
to  really  listen or really respond in  open  and  honest
communication.

     As  soon  as  we try to use force  to  make  somebody
really  listen or respond in communication,  the  openness
and honesty vanishes from the communication.  There may be
efforts to make it appear that there is genuine  listening
and/or  genuine  responding;  but in fact the  force  just
engendered dishonesty,  deception, appearances,  and leads
to collusive games of mutual self deception.

     In  the  light  of  the  above  fact  of  life   many
constitutions now contain provisions guaranteeing freedoms
of speech,  press, assembly and petition.  Such guarantees
are  a  recognition  that  when  it  comes  to  listening,
responding  and communication in general---attempts to  be
in  control  are essentially violent  and  disintegrative.
Attempts to be in control are characteristic of collusive,
addictive  and  codependent behaviors---and do  not  merit
