Emotions which are fully under control are not as authentic and meaningful as emotions which are not fully under control. When it is impossible to tell if another person's emotions are fully under the control of the person, it is impossible to tell how authentic and heart- felt the emotions are; how meaningful they really are to the person who has their emotions fully under their control. It is also useful to consider instances in which people are in control of each other's emotions. If Jack has Jill's emotions fully under his control it is impossible for Jack to tell how authentic and meaningful Jill's emotions are; and similarly if Jill has Jack's emotions fully under her control. Having another persons emotions fully under control often appears to be a desirable goal, but only until the goal is achieved and thoughtfully considered; and perhaps only until the goal is thoughtfully considered in the imagination, even without actually achieving the goal.
