When we do not have a word for some reality, we often neglect to focus attention upon the wordless reality. We do not have a word for those concerns which we systematically neglect; suppose we call them "negatories", the neglected realities just as "priorities" are the realities upon which we focus attention "prior" to focusing attention upon other realities. Priorities are concerns of major importance and we focus attention upon them first because they are of major importance; or they must be done first so other things may be done later. We dig a hole before building basement walls. Holes are not necessarily more important that roofs. Negatories are distinctive in that we neglect them for a reason. They are distinguished by the kinds of reasons for which we neglect them. Negatories are often of great importance; but we neglect them compulsively at our peril. The reasons for which we neglect negatories are not good reasons; they are very foolish, stupid, and even tragic reasons. The reasons for which we neglect negatories are often collusive reasons which hide themselves within the perverse dynamics of our collusions. We do not recognize our negatories for collusive reasons. Our negatories are neglected for collusive reasons. We disintegrate because we neglect to give attention to our negatories. Through neglect of our negatories we are seriously out of balance, and often get caught off balance, unable to respond in balanced ways to threats to our integrity. Negatories are important realities which we neglect in how we respond to the realities of our lives. We pretend that they do not exist. Our response to negatories are dishonest responses because our responses to them are collusive. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
