So long as we feel threatened by coercion, violence, or threats to our personal and communal integrity; or feel insecure because of there is no evident presence of true personal acceptance of our personal and communal integrity---so long we are likely to be defensive, and so be a threat to those about us. When we and others are misled by values and ideals which cause us to be preoccupied with: conformity, the fulfillment of expectations, discipline, obedience, orders, rules, regulations, injunctions, prohibitions, taboos, laws, legislation, litigation, judgments, rejections, excommunications, disfellowshipping, and ways to fix our imperfections---then we are in the presence of coercions, violence, and threats to our personal and communal integrity. In such situations there is no evident presence of true personal acceptance of our personal and communal integrity. We cannot therein enjoy true peace, tranquility or serenity. We seek to defend ourselves through the use of coercion, violence and threats to the personal and communal integrity of those whom we perceive to be our enemies and/or the agents of evil powers which threaten us. We thereby feed the viscous cycle. We enjoy true peace, tranquility and serenity to the extent that we enjoy the absence of coercion, violence and threats to our personal and communal integrity; and also enjoy the evident presence of true personal acceptance of our personal and communal integrity. To enjoy true peace, tranquility and serenity we need to cooperate and work together to break the viscous cycle through which the presence of coercion, violence and threats to our personal and communal integrity grows exponentially in proportion to itself---through the elicitation of defensive maneuvers and technologies. Whatever elicits defensive maneuvers and technologies tends to undermine security, peace, tranquility and serenity. We can work to promote true peace, tranquility and serenity by focusing our attention upon integrative ideals and values which do not lead us to be preoccupied with: conformity, the fulfillment of expectations, discipline, obedience, orders, rules, regulations, injunctions, prohibitions, taboos, laws, legislation, litigation, judgments, rejections, excommunications, disfellowshipping, and ways to fix our imperfections. The roots to many of our dilemmas are to be found in our ideals and values; not in our technologies and weaknesses. Integrative ideals and values do not cause us to be preoccupied with the apparently threatening differences between us and those whom we are prone to perceive as our enemies, and/or as agents of evil powers. Integrative ideals and values lead us and motivate us to focus our attention upon the similarities and complimentary differences between us and those people whom we are prone to perceive as our enemies and/or as agents of evil powers. Integrative ideals and values lead us to seek to be together in dialogue, conversations, and listening with those whom we perceive to be different from us in interesting ways. Therein we find joyful ways to cooperate in resolving the conflicts which tend to divide us and make us feel insecure. We cannot enjoy true peace, tranquility and serenity so long as we respect, honor, elect and tolerate leaders who are focused upon values and ideals which cause us to be preoccupied with: conformity, the fulfillment of expectations, discipline, obedience, orders, rules, regulations, injunctions, prohibitions, taboos, laws, legislation, litigation, judgments, rejections, excommunications, disfellowshipping, and ways to fix our imperfections. Such people lead us into coercion, violence and threats to our personal and communal integrity. We need to transcend their foci and the technologies into which their foci lead us. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
