Different paradigms may use the same words within one language such as English; but mean quite different things when they use the same words. The new age hippy and the physicists mean quite different things by the words: energy, vibrations, momentum and force. Within some paradigms there are realities which are taboo; participants within the paradigms are forbidden to acknowledge their reality, and so participants within the paradigms must not have words with which to point to the forbidden realities. One of the ways to make a reality invisible is to prevent anyone from having words or phrases with which to point to the reality. If any person who is "in" the paradigm uses one of the taboo words to point to a taboo reality; the person is shunned so as to inhibit the repetition of the taboo word usage. Thus people in some paradigms live in the presence of realities which they cannot point to and cannot honestly experience because of language deprivation. To transcend collusive paradigms we need to expand our vocabularies to include words with which to point to realities which have been taboo for us to acknowledge; or we need to learn how to use existing words in new ways to point to such realities. We need to be sensitive to other people who may be using words which we think we understand, but they are using the words in ways which are not consistent with our paradigm. If we do not understand other people we may find it helpful to entertain the hypothesis that they may be living within a paradigm which contrasts significantly with ours. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
