The child may fear abandonment, abuse, alienation, excommunication, dis-fellowship or other forms of exclusion from community. Abusive religious leaders may use such adult children's fears of excommunication, disfellowship, abandonment and alienation as tools in the manipulation of codependent believers. God may be portrayed as the ultimately abusive religious leader who stands ready to punish the imperfect adult child for mistakes made and imperfections not transcended. These are all manifestations of human imperfections and are often associated with attempts to achieve perfection perceived as essential to acceptability and salvation. God as the ground of being is always present to each and every child who seeks Her presence as the power which enables rebirth. God as the ground of being does not abandon Her children and offers rebirth to the children who get lost in dishonest ways and byways. God grants Her conceptions the power to be themselves honestly, to make mistakes and to learn from their mistakes while honestly in Her divine presence. God does not punish Her conceptions through abandonment, dis-fellowship, excommunication or rejection from community. God is always present to Her conceptions. God is omnipresent and no religious leaders can prevent that presence. See the book "One Child" by Torey L. Hayden. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
