It does not make sense, however, to believe that objective truths will satisfy scientists' deepest longings in the absence of human affirmations of their accomplishments. There is a sense in which the discovery of objective truths is but a means to a deeper end. There is hope that through the discovery of objective truths some deeper human needs will be met; personal needs which are not objective realities. In order to understand scientists and the dilemmas which are associated with: scientific research, the application of scientific discoveries and efforts at transcending the "crisis" in science education---we need to recognize and acknowledge the deeper personal needs which scientists yearn to satisfy through their varied efforts. Compulsively objective scientists find it difficult to acknowledge what those deep needs are, because those needs are not objective realities which may be manipulated without embarrassment. Scientists are embarrassed to engage in reflexive behaviors which are essentially non-objective. Scientists' addictive behaviors will not be transcended until they deal honestly with the truths about their non-objective needs, needs which they seek to satisfy through their efforts to be thoroughly objective in narrowly focused research efforts.
