Such beliefs lead to disintegration. Often our attempts to avoid the expression of what we regarded as negative emotions and thoughts, lead to unrecognized expressions of them, which in turn lead other people to acquire them without conscious recognition or evaluation of them. In the absence of conscious expression of emotions and thoughts, they often spread like a disease which sets many people ill at ease, and occasions many recognized diseases in unrecognized ways. We need to learn how to respect all expressions of feeling and thoughts as means to wisely dealing with them in open and honest ways. Only when feeling and thoughts are openly and honestly expressed are they out in the open where they can be dealt with wisely. When feelings and thoughts are imprisoned in the dark corners of our lives, they can do all kinds of damage out of sight and consciousness. Being ignorant of our hidden feelings and thoughts does not help us deal with them wisely. We need to recognize the unspoken values and ideals which lead us to avoid the expression of many of our emotions and thoughts. Many scientists compulsively value objectivity to the exclusion of honest expression of their subjective experiences, perceptions, feelings and thoughts. The dynamics of scientists' impersonal life style needs to be openly and honestly examined to recognize the tragic consequences which flow from their unspoken values and ideals, which lead them to avoid the expression of many of their emotions and thoughts.
