The system must also have some built-in criteria for how much time to allow between action taken, and judgement as to whether the action taken was adequate, too much, or too little; i.e., how patient to be with the response to actions taken. If more than one parameter is to be regulated, the system must be able to deal with any conflict between regulating one parameter, and regulating any other parameter; i.e., there must be some specification as to how to resolve conflicts between multiple secondary ideals in terms of one supreme ideal. If an auto-regulatory system is to survive in a changing environment, the system must be able to respond to changes in the environment so as to maintain its own integrity, survivability, and functionality. If the range of environmental changes which may be encountered is going to be large, the system must have a large number of ways of responding to environmental changes to succeed in maintaining its own integrity, survivability and functionality. Then it must have ways to balance the importance of each possible internal change in relation to the changes in the environment. There is no end to the chain of possible levels of evaluation! These considerations apply to humans as well as to machines. When humans become like machines, it is then that machines appear to be human. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
