Being committed to such misleading values leads us to dissatisfaction. A change from dissatisfaction to satisfaction must therefore involve a change in our leading values; the values which we regard as most basic and most important. This amounts to a change in our conception of the nature of the God we serve, the gods we serve; or a change in our choice of which god to serve. We cannot achieve satisfaction by serving false gods that lead us into misleading behavior patterns which are not satisfactory; literally do not satisfy. We cannot be true to our real nature while serving false gods. False gods lead us into false behavior patterns which are not satisfying. Misleading behavior is not the result of faulty technology in the sense of inadequate technology. Misleading behavior is the result of faulty technology in the sense of false technology; i.e., "technology" which in a false and dishonest way appears to be technology by being masked to appear like it was only technology. When we value manipulative techniques by which we try to achieve what we want, more than we value (integrity and honesty); we are then mislead by the techniques which we value. Such techniques have become our gods and we disintegrate because of our idolatrous worship of manipulative techniques which lead us into coercive and violent relationships. While we are worshipping our manipulative techniques in the hopes of achieving our selfish goals in satisfactory ways, we cannot at the same time be honest with ourselves or each other about our feelings, perceptions, fears, etc. We cannot know the truth about ourselves, which we need to know to make wise decisions. We cannot reflect upon what we are doing to ourselves through our manipulative behaviors, for we pretend that we are being objective in our manipulations. When the object of our manipulative techniques includes those persons about whom we care most, we cannot at the same time be objective, and we are prone to disintegrate in collusive games of mutual self deception regarding what it is that we worship, and what it is that we are doing. Scientific objectivity is an unsatisfactory god. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
