%RESOLVE EXTEND SELF DESTRUCTIVE DISHONEST CONFLICT 890611

     When  the  people  who are the  incarnations  of  the
ideals  and values that are the essence of one side  of  a
destructive  conflict seek to WIN over the people who  are
the  incarnations  of the ideals and values that  are  the
essence  of the opposing side of the destructive conflict;
then   the  consequence  is  an  extension  of  the   self
destructive activities of the conflict.

     If,  on the other hand,  opponents in a conflict seek
to  cooperate in open and honest communication to  resolve
the   conflict   among  ideals  and  values,    with   all
participants  GETTING  TO YES;  then the consequence is  a
resolution  of the conflict and an end to the  destructive
activities of the conflict.

     Participants  in  conflict extension are  engaged  in
self/communal   destruction.    Participants  in  conflict
resolution   are  engaged  in  self/communal  integration.
Disintegration is the essence of destruction, which is the
opposite of integration.

     Participants  in  conflicts who are dishonest  and/or
secretive about their conflicting ideals,  values,  goals,
desires,  activities, etc.   will through their dishonesty
lead  each  other to the destruction of the  integrity  of
themselves and their communities.  Through dishonesty they
extend the destructive conflict.

     Alienation  is central to the extension of  conflict.
Military  training has often had as a central aspect of it
the generation of alienation of young men on one side from
young men on the other side, so that they would be willing
to kill each other.  The process of military training is a
depersonalization process which is preparation for killing
without feeling. It is thus a process of disintegration of
the military trainee; fragmenting feeling from action. The
first job of an army is to learn not to empathize with the
persons in the enemy army;  to become alienated.   That is
the first step towards a successful military venture.

     Alienation is the consequence of military success.

     Alienation is the essence of evil behavior.  Behavior
which leads towards alienation and disintegration is  evil
behavior.

     Reconciliation,   mutual understanding and  sympathy,
and  the resolution of conflicting ideals and  values  are
central  to  the  works of Love.    Behavior  which  leads
towards such fruits is integrative behavior.

     Use of the word "evil"  to describe people as persons
leads towards alienation and disintegration and so is evil
behavior.   It is not people who are evil,  it is behavior
and  relationships among people which  are  disintegrative
and so are evil.

     Evil  can  not  be  overcome by  treating  people  in
alienative  ways.    Evil can be transcended only  through
behavior  which  leads to open and  honest  resolution  of
conflicts among ideals and values,  with all  participants
