Once there is an understanding of the structure of the opposition to integration it is possible to weaken that structure so that the opposition is no longer strong. A frontal attack upon the structure which opposes integration tends to strengthen the structure by prompting it to draw upon available resources to oppose change. To weaken the structure of the opposition to integration we may expose its lack of integrity. The opposition to integration does not fly true colors. The opposition to integration engages in all forms of deception to make the opposition appear to be worthy of respect. The strength of the opposition to integration depends upon the respect which it can elicit. Respect can not be elicited by flying true colors, so attempts are made to elicit respect by pretense and by confusing those whose respect is sought. Respect for opposition to integrity is often sought in terms of legalistic criteria for acceptability. Those who do not meet the legalistic criteria are regarded as worthy of rejection. The key is therefore to get people to accept legalistic criteria in terms of which non- conformist people are regarded as worthy of rejection. Legalists are in opposition to integration because integration calls for the reconciliation of rejected creative non-conformists. Some people are rejected because they recognize the structure of opposition to integration and reveal its lack of integrity. Rejecting such perceptive people is part of the structure of opposition to integration. Those who oppose integration may do so by pretending to be promoting integrity. "Good" people try to appear especially worthy of respect by virtue of their conformity to "good" standards of behavior which are presented as promoting integrity. Such "good" people are willing to reject people who do not conform to their "good" standards of acceptability. The willingness to reject and become alienated from non-conformists---promotes disintegration. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
