             %COMMUNAL REFLEXIVE INTEGRATIVE IDEALS 870716

     If  a  community does not  have  clearly  articulated
communal-reflexive-integrative  ideals, then  other ideals
are likely  to inhibit communal-integration-in-reflective-
ways.  This is especially likely to be so if the community
has  objective  ideals  which tend to  outweigh  reflexive
interests and needs.

     Reflecting  upon  mistakes can be very  embarrassing,
and  may be taboo.   The pain of reflecting upon  mistakes
may  lead  people to believe that all personal  reflecting
should  be taboo,   and that only objective considerations
should be permitted; objectivity may become idealized, and
reflexive considerations in  a  mirror  way tacitly become
taboo.  Then communal-reflexive-integrative-ideals must be
taboo and their articulation inhibited.

     Communal  (and  so personal)  integrity depends  upon
members of the community being (and feeling)  free to give
themselves  to  being integrated into the  community  over
which they do not have control.   Such a sense of  freedom
depends upon  pre-existent integrity and can grow only  as
members  of the community seek to promote integrity  which
goes beyond what already exists.   This entails trust  and
