Logic, reasoning and information may have relatively little to do with the conclusions---which are after the fact rationalized. Insecurity, fear, anxiety, alienation, lack of dialogue, the absence of reliable communication, ignorance, etc.---may have much to do with the conviction that the conclusions are correct. Rationalization is then a tool used to prop up the low self esteem of those with the conclusive convictions. Evidence may be carefully selected and inter-related with clever logic to support the fearful conclusions. Yet the arrival at the conclusions were motivated and directed by fear in the absence of security; not by evidence and reason in the absence of threats to personal and communal integrity. To avoid fearful conclusions and the tragic decisions and actions to which they lead---all members of a community need to work to promote both personal and communal integrity, so that all members may be secure with integrity. Real security begins in a loving home where children are free to be vulnerable, continues in educational institutions where students are free to be open and honest so that they can learn from their mistakes in fail safe contexts, and matures in communities whose unity depends upon intimate dialogue which is encouraged and enabled by the personal and communal integrity of all members of the community.
