To be honest there must also be an evaluation of the costs of them becoming involved in the new mission: 1. Money spent in carrying out the new mission, might otherwise have been spent in some other comparab and good fruitful mission. One good may be sacrificed to fulfill another good. What is the Net-Good of the exchange? 2. Personal time, energy, attention and creativity which is devoted to the new mission --- might otherwise have been devoted to some other comparably fruitful mission. Again, one good may be sacrificed to fulfill another good? What is the Net-Good of the change, the shift in attention? 3. Attempting to carry out a new mission in addition to continuing to carry out existing missions --- may lead to declining health, energy, focus, concentration, prudence and wisdom; and to the inability to be effective in carrying out any mission! What then would be the net good of attempting to fulfill the new mission on top of existing missions? Human limits must be honored to bear net sweet fruits! Be-Together in the Many-Gracious Ways of Shalom. (c) 2008 by Paul A. Smith in "Search for Honesty and Integrity" (On Being Yourself Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
