Some may view the word "love" as implying discipline imposed from outside; while others may view the word "love" as implying gentleness, kindness and liberation. Some may view the word "salvation" as implying a unilateral rescue by "properly qualified" experts; while others may view "salvation" as implying liberation from misleading beliefs, attitudes and practices. Our dilemma is that while some people believe that each word or statement can have only one reasonable meaning; other people recognize that different people are likely to recognize differing meanings and implications in the ways which people use words in making meaningful statements. These differences in understandings often are rooted in different (but not articulated) attitudes, beliefs and cosmologies. Conflicts over such differences are usually intractable and cannot be resolved in the absence of open and honest discussions within true sanctuary communities. Salvation from such conflicts cannot be based upon UNILATERAL beliefs, understandings, interpretations and actions. People who believe in the efficacy of UNILATERAL actions are unable to resolve conflicts which are rooted in different patterns of discerning and/or interpreting the meanings of efforts to communicate. Thus conflict resolution is often impossible in the absence of civility, hospitality, kindness, generosity, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Domineering people often act in ways which exclude the presence of all that is essential to conflict resolution. Thus domineering people entrap each other in endless patterns of conflict and need True-Lovers to reveal and lead the way into true peacemaking. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
