A purist in support of some one isolated ideal, value or principle --- may regard it as compromising to acknowledge that any complementary ideal, value or principle merits any degree of respect, honor or support. 2. A fanatical supporter of some team, political- party, religious-position, nation-state or army --- may regard it as compromising to listen-to, engage-in- dialogue with, or cooperate-in-any-way with anyone who affirms in-any-way any-other-team, political-party, religious-position, nation-state or army. 3. An insecure and/or defensive person --- may regard it as compromising to be vulnerable to any other persons at any time in any place; because they regard security to be identical to total invulnerability in all times and places. 4. A fanatical supporter of some set of religious purity codes --- may regard it as compromising to fail to maintain faithful observance of all aspects of all the purity codes which they believe to be the key to the maintenance of personal and communal integrity. 5. Some people believe that it is compromising for them to fail to show unqualified reverence-toward, respect-for, honor-toward, and support-of their primary focal: ideal, value, principle, political-party, religious-position, nation-state, army, purity-code, etc. They are often willing to sacrifice (with virtually no thought or regret) their own integrity, other peoples' integrities, and the integrities of personal and communal relationships --- in the service of their idols. Such people are idolaters and incapable of promoting or facilitation personal or communal integrity. Their sacrifice of integrities, integrity and integration does not merit our reverence, respect, honor or support. It is difficult for any person to make a reasonable case for sacrificing their own or other peoples' integrities --- in the name of promoting and facilitating integration and integrities. It is likewise difficult for us to reverence, honor or support anyone who compromises and engages in the destruction of any integrities --- without thereby compromising our own integrities. Why should anybody do so? How can doing so be truly helpful to anybody? (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
