What can be, and often is, evil? What cannot be, and never is, essentially evil? Evil always relates to human RELATIONSHIPS in one way or another. Below, related words suggest various kinds of behaviors and relationships which are often seen as evil: 1. Alienation, estrangement, excommunication, shunning, imprisonment, banishment, repression, suppression, unilateral-controls. 2. Coercion, domination, terrorism, war, threats, violence, conquest, colonialism, empire-building, dictatorships. 3. Enslavement, slavery, legalized-segregation, legalized-prejudice, unilateral limitations of rights. 4. Coerced-conformity, unwilling-submission, codependency, complicity, indifference, withdrawal, depression. 5. Dishonesty, pretentiousness, arrogance, self- righteousness, contentiousness, collusions, conspiracies, 6. Mandatory-vulnerability, meanness, torture, brutality, abuse, rape, murder. 7. Narcissism, egocentricity, self-centeredness, selfishness, greed, stealing. 8. "Invulnerability", defensiveness, insecurity. There are other forms and manifestations of evil which are often confused with appearances of necessity and virtue. It is especially difficult to deal wisely and prudently with such obscure forms and manifestations of evil --- before being clear about the pattern of inter- relationships among the more clear forms and manifestations of evil. Life is complicated by traditions of labeling the- enemy, "different" people, unfamiliar-people and non- conformists as "evil" to make them more vulnerable. When personified-evil is presumed to be easy to identify --- it is very difficult to identify the forms of evil with which one is oneself complicit --- through the evil- relationships within which one is participating.
