Intimate relationships within which people become bonded with each other --- come into being in different ways. That which is key is: sometimes evolution, sometimes a jointly agreed upon contract, sometimes general public acknowledgements, sometimes a formal public declaration. In each case the quality of a relationship depends critically upon how the participants within the relationship view their relationship, communicate with and listen to each other, take initiatives, respond to each other's initiatives, and respond to initiatives and communications from people who are only "tangential" or bystanders to the relationship; i.e., not core-participants within the relationship. The quality of a relationship cannot by fully DEFINED unilaterally by any person or persons outside of the relationship, nor by any core person(s) within the relationship. All relationships continuously evolve as the core-participants take initiatives, respond to initiatives, reflect upon themselves, reflect upon each other, and interact with those who are not core- participants. Change is what is constant. A relationship is an enduring-process, not a permanent "thing". A relationship which does not involve growth and change has come to a dead end --- in which there is NO PROCESS which continues to merit reverence, respect, honor, or support --- although there may yet be a memory of that which in the past elicited respect, honor and/or support.
