Often the mistake we make is to label individual people, ideals, values, images, dreams, visions, etc. --- as EVIL in and of themselves; in isolation. That diagnosis leads rather "naturally" to the belief that what has been labeled as "EVIL" --- should be isolated, denigrated, rejected, limited, condemned and destroyed. We need to be open and honest with ourselves and each other --- and to admit that: 1. IN ISOLATION we are incomplete, imperfect, limited, lacking-in-meaning, lacking-in-significance, and relatively impotent. 2. When we are ill-at-ease, ill, sick, diseased, dis-eased, insecure, defensive, fearful, anxious, uninformed, dis-informed, confused, etc. --- we often need gracious help to be put-at-ease, reconciled, healed, included, accepted, respected, informed and educated --- through integrative gifts of the freedom to be safely vulnerable --- within communal sanctuaries where we feel truly secure in intimate relationships of open and honest dialogue. Putting the label "EVIL" upon that which is incomplete, isolated and alienated --- from that which is complementary and essential to its completion and integration --- is a tragic diagnosis which leads to further tragic consequences. Such labeling of INCOMPLETE PARTS AS EVIL engenders an exponential growth in isolation, alienation and dis-integration. We do need to be aware of, acknowledge and describe EVIL RELATIONSHIPS which entail: alienations, estrangements, isolation, rejections, exclusions, exclusivity, ignorance, prejudices, biases, condemnations, excommunications, imprisonments, arrogance, self-righteousness, pretentiousness, etc. Such honest kinds of awareness can lead to: kindness, reconciliation, friendships, integration, acceptance, inclusion, education, fairness, listening, dialogue, liberation, humility, right-relationships, authenticity. personal-integrity and communal integrity. Such honest kinds of awareness can lead to: dealing honestly with what needs to be done to cure EVIL RELATIONSHIPS through appropriate corrective actions which are based upon the recognition of the essential attributes of EVIL RELATIONSHIPS which always involve more than one person, thing, ideal, idea, value, principle, hope, vision, dream, desire, etc. The central issue in dealing with EVIL RELATIONSHIPS is not identifying some one isolated: person, idea, ideal, image, value, principle, thing, place, group, gang, city, culture, life-style, or other "thing" which is EVIL; but in identifying the helpful ways in which we can heal the many EVIL RELATIONSHIPS within which we are involved. We need to cooperate in healing defects within our RELATIONSHIPS. We cannot unilaterally (as isolated individuals) fix, correct, improve or control each other isolated individual who is regarded IN ISOLATION AS EVIL. We need to overcome our ISOLATIONS, rather than to take for granted that we can be GOOD-IN-ISOLATION; as God? (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
