The two kinds of people often appear alike in many ways; e.g., by being focused upon: 1. Highly respected ideals amd idealism. 2. Knowing who is good and who is evil. 3. Being dedicated to a comprehensive system. 4. Extensive educational activities. 5. Definitions of proper moral behaviors. 6. Descriptions if improper/immoral behaviors. 7. Scriptures which are seen as holy/sacred. 8. Long-standing traditions, rules, and laws. 9. Men respected by many influential people. 10. Which are the proper means to men's salvation. Both kinds of people are so much alike in the above kinds of ways, that it is sometimes hard to recognize which people are civil, and which people are not civil; which people are integrators, and which people are disintegrative in many ways. We need to focus upon some additional considerations to effectively recognize which people are truly civil, and which people may turn out to be very un-civil in crisis situations which reveal what kind of people they truly are. Do they focus upon all of the following kinds of concerns? Which of the following kinds of concerns do they systematically ignore? Why do they ignore some of the following concerns? Because of what exclusive other concerns? 1. Promoting both personal and communal integrity? 2. Balance in inter-personal relationships? 3. Mutuality in inter-personal relationships? 4. Relationships, as much as personal traits? 5. Complementary spectrums of ideals/values? 6. Transcending bias, prejudice and ignorance? 7. The rights of the tragically vulnerable & poor. 8. Fairness and justice in distributing power? 9. Better health for vulnerable and poor people. 10. Arrogance, self-righteousness and coercion. 11. Facilitating openness, honesty & authenticity. 12. Providing sanctuaries for healthy intimacy. 13. Respecting people's rights to privacy. 14. Respecting people's communication rights? 15. The long term costs of dishonest relationships. 16. The long terms costs of concentrating power. 17. The lack of integrity in technocratic living. 18. The essential foundations for true integrity. 19. Transcending evil as alienation/estrangement. 20. Accepting valid paradoxical truths as essential. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
