Such people then expect each other to act-out the roles assigned; as if they themselves were authors and/or directors of some dramatic production on the state of life. People who cast themselves in the role of director do not expect their actors to write their own scripts, to extemporize, or to depart from the assigned script. Actors are to present themselves as having their assigned persona, not as themselves. To be authentic is to present the assigned persona. To do otherwise is to be in-authentic. Faithful actors are owned; not themselves. It is no surprise to perceptive people who are authentically themselves --- that people who are not authentically themselves are often engaged in contentious conflicts over their assignments of persona. Under the described circumstances "life" is a contest between people who are desperately trying to dominate each other more successfully than the competitive "others" are. People cannot imagine, much less can they fulfill, the ideal that the people who most merit respect, honor and support --- are those people who most effectively help and encourage each other in working together cooperatively --- so that all people's potentials are fulfilled in meaningful ways; needs met in balanced ways; and desires fulfilled in mutually satisfactory ways. Such a though is unthinkable for domineering people! (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
