Taking advantage of people's points of vulnerability and weakness --- engenders alienation. To WIN conflicts---contestants must use coercion and take advantage of people's points of vulnerability. The use of coercion engenders alienation, distrust, and dishonesty. The longer conflicts persist --- the less trust, honesty and openness will survive. In the absence of trust, honesty and openness --- conflict resolution is nearly impossible. People who know that they are "the best" through arrogance and self-righteousness---undermine conflict resolution. People who know that they are "the least" are unlikely to be open and honest with themselves or each other. Weakness in the presence of arrogant strength/power is unlikely to elicit gentleness. Strength in the presence of weak defensiveness is likely to elicit conflict. Conflict cannot be transcended, overcome, or eliminated---through superior strength, power or defenses. Conflict is transcended through humble cooperation, generosity and assistance. Conflict is transcended through exchanges of gifts of the freedom to be vulnerable. Conflict is transcended through gentleness, humility, forgiveness and reconciliation. Conflict is intensified by self-righteousness and arrogance. Conflict is intensified by attempts by the powerful to be in control of the unconventional and creative. Creativity is inhibited by coercion, violence and preoccupation with issues of control. Wise decisions are undermined by ignorance, confusion, dishonesty and distrust. Evil is not overcome through expressions of arrogance, power, and self-righteousness. Evil is not overcome through the use of force, coercion, violence, or any threats thereof. Evil is not diminished through the use of punishments, imprisonment or excommunications. Evil is not diminished by people who are arrogant and self-righteous in their superiority. Evil is not diminished by people preoccupied with making personal comparisons. Evil is not diminished by people who seek to promote good forms of conformity. Evil is not diminished by people who seek to conceal embarrassing truths. Evil is not diminished by people who try to make complex situations to appear to be simpler than they are. Evil is not transcended by people who are preoccupied with being among the best people in their view. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
