Often the consequences of actions (or of in-actions) depend in significant ways upon the nature of the motivations for the actions (or of the in-actions) --- as the case may be. The above being the case, it is useful to examine the motivations for various possible actions (or in-actions) --- to discern the natures of the various kinds of motivations which may direct and encourage us towards them. 1. Generally we need to respect and honor motivations which are firmly grounded in informed and reasonable expectations of an impending disaster; e.g., a tornado, hurricane, avalanche, collision, mud-slide, volcanic eruption, etc. 2. We also need to respect and honor motivations which are firmly grounded in informed and reasonable expectations of solid returns on appropriate investments; e.g., building a house, paving a road, shoveling snow, prudent purchase of reliable stocks, etc. 3. We need to be careful about respecting and honoring motivations which are grounded in fears which are uninformed, prejudiced, immature, irrational, fanatical, capricious, arbitrary, and/or manipulative. 4. We also need to be careful about respecting and honoring motivations which are based upon incoherent reasoning, logic, ideals, values and/or principles. 5. We cannot be people and communities of integrity if our motivations and foundations lack integrity and are incoherent --- if for example they are grounded in: IGNORANCE MIS-INFORMATION IRRATIONALITY PREJUDICE IMMATURITY FANATICISM EXTREMISM EXCLUSIVITY ADDICTIONS DOMINANCE TERRORISM REVENGE 6. We cannot be people and communities of integrity if we respect and support efforts to manipulate and control human thoughts, feelings, behaviors and appearances --- with indifference to the ways in which the efforts regularly engender alienation, misunderstanding, confusion, resentment, rebellion, dishonesty, secrecy, deception and violence.
