     The essence of a person is not the particular set  of
atoms  or  molecules in the person's body---for  they  are
constantly changing.

     The essence of a community is not the particular  set
of  individual  people  in the  community---for  they  are
constantly changing.

     The essence of each person and of each community  has
to  do  with  the  personal  integrity  and  the  communal
integrity   associated  with  each---with  that  which  is
central to their coherence,  wholeness, health,  being and
presence.

     For people  and  their communities  to  preserve  and
protect    their  essence  they  need  to   recognize  and
respect  their  unique  integrities---what is  central  to
their being their unique whole selves.   Then they need to
work  to   preserve  both  their  personal  and   communal
integrities;   for they go together in life and in  death.
When  personal  integrity  decays so  also  does  communal
integrity   decay.  When  communal  integrity   decays  so
also   does  personal integrity  decay.    One  cannot  be
sacrificed in any way to augment the other.   If one  kind
of  integrity  is sacrificed in  an effort to augment  the
other  kind of integrity  both kinds of  integrity  suffer
due to the lack of integrity  in the effort.

     When  personal  and  communal integrity  are  ignored
while engaged  in efforts to achieve certain goals---there
is   a  great  probability  that  personal  and   communal
integrity   will be sacrificed;   and that the achievement
of  the certain goals will not come to be;  or will not be
