If we dismiss our own most significant personal experiences as not being important in relation to abstractions, generalizations, rules, regulations, prohibitions, prescriptions and commandments which others have laid upon us---we are not being honest with ourselves or others. If we do not openly and honestly name, describe and talk with others about our own most significant personal experiences---we are not being honest with ourselves or others. If we compulsively focus our own and other people's attention upon abstractions, generalizations, rules, regulations, prohibitions, prescriptions and commandments; to the exclusion of our own and their most significant personal experiences---we are not being honest with ourselves or others. If we are not being honest with ourselves or others in any of the above ways---we cannot enjoy personal or communal integrity. We will lose whatever integrity we have sooner, rather than later. We need to take care to note how we focus our attention in relation to our own and other people's most significant personal experiences. If we do no do so, we lose contact with each other and lose contact with reality; we go crazy! (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
