We need to recognize, name, describe and talk about what and who leads us. Leadership plays central roles in our lives---and we are often mislead because we do not recognize, name, describe and talk about the who, what and how of the various forms of leadership which dominate our lives. Obviously there are important leaders, people, who play central roles in our lives; people who are featured in newspapers, television, radio and personal reports. Their styles and directions of leadership are major factors in our lives. How they are chosen, by whom, and for what reasons---are important factors in our lives. There are however other unrecognized leadership factors which play major leadership roles in our lives. We need more often to recognize, name, describe and talk about the many other leadership factors which play major roles in our lives---leadership factors which may be suggested by words such as: ATTITUDES ASSUMPTIONS QUESTIONS SILENCES PROHIBITIONS PRESCRIPTIONS TABOOS DOCTRINES IDEALS TECHNOLOGIES VALUES GOALS IMAGES PERSPECTIVES PICTURES MODELS DISEASES RITUALS TRADITIONS HABITS COLLUSIONS ADDICTIONS CODEPENDENCE DISHONESTY In each case we may be followers of leadership factors and yet quite unaware of how we are being led and/or misled by unrecognized, unnamed, undescribed and untalked-about leadership factors. Life is a fabric in which there are many threads which are woven in complex ways which we all too often do not recognize, name, or describe or talk about. It is no wonder that we are often misled and confused! We need to recognize, name describe or talk about what we can do regarding our being so often misled! (c) 2005 by Paul A.
