We need to observe the self-chosen separation of fundamentalists from those whom they separate themselves; and see to what extent their alienation is occasioned by forms of idealism, perfectionism, values, legalism, judgmentalism, etc. How often do fundamentalists seek to resolve conflicts, promote mutual understanding, seek reconciliation or ask forgiveness for alienative behaviors? How often do fundamentalists seek to identify common ground between themselves and others in commonly shared ideals, values, hopes, aspirations, and goals. People who fail to seek common ground often end up on battle grounds in conflicts between people who see each other as essentially evil---even though all of them are children of God and loved by God.
