The number and variety of different forms of pretense give witness to how pervasive pretense and dishonesty are, and suggest that the perversion of virtues must be correspondingly pervasive--- with perverted virtues being presented as if they were the original virtues in the absence of any perversion. Often we pretend to KNOW, when in fact we do NOT KNOW. Often we pretend NOT to KNOWN, when in fact we do KNOW. These two sentences point to only two forms of pretense and dishonesty---pertaining to the word "KNOW". Most forms of pretense and dishonesty come in pairs of the above two forms; one affirmative and the other negative. Many of the common forms of pretense and dishonesty can be pointed to by use of the above paired forms as a "formula" in which the word KNOW is replaced by one of the following words or it's related cognates: SEE DESIRE FEAR HEAR WANT ANTICIPATE FEEL EXPECT REGRET TASTE INTEND REMEMBER SMELL INTUIT FORGET PERCEIVE ASSUME QUESTION CONCEIVE BELIEVE ASSENT CREATE IMAGINE ENVISION EXPERIENCE RECOGNIZE COMPETE SUCCEED ACHIEVE PERFECT WORK FAIL RELAX REST MEDITATE PRAY LISTEN REQUEST ASK We need to learn how to recognize the presentation of perverted forms of virtues which are presented as integrative forms of the virtues. Often such perverse presentations entail deception and dishonesty of the forms pointed to by the above possible multitude of paired forms generated by insertion of the above words and/or their cognates in the place of the word "know". Our collusive games of mutual self deception are so powerful, that we may not be able to recognize what the forms point to, even when we try to recognize what it is that they might be pointing to.
