Such transcendence is not only permitted, it is essential to our well being, health, and integrity. As children we did not have the power to truly recognize, name, describe, talk about, judge and transcend the dysfunctional gods who dominated our lives of dependency. Now as adults we do have the power to honesty recognize, name, describe, talk about, judge and truly transcend the dysfunctional gods who dominated our childhood lives of dependency and impotence. Even the best of the parents and other adults who dominated our childhood lives were imperfect; but in our impotence we may have often conceived them to be eternal, perfect, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. We will in turn be dysfunctional parents and adults if now as powerful adults and parents we continue to conceive of the godly guardians, parents and adults of our childhood years as if they are eternal, perfect, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent---even though they may be obviously dead, dysfunctional imperfect, weak, uninformed and/or absent. We cannot now be true to ourselves and each other with personal and communal integrity so long as we are not open and honest with ourselves and each other about the true natures of the guardians, parents, and adults of our childhood years. Honesty about them is essential to our becoming liberated to be true to ourselves and to each other. We cannot enjoy personal and communal integrity without being honest about the imperfect people who were to us gods in our childhood years of impotent dependency. To be truly ourselves, whole and healthy, we now need to learn to name, describe, talk about, judge and truly transcend the dysfunctional gods whom we conceived in and dominated our childhood lives of dependency and impotence.
