Our best organizations and friends are often enmeshed in dysfunctional behavior patterns which conceal themselves (the patterns) through hidden subconscious patterns of systemic dishonesty. Enmeshed are many of our best religious organizations, spouses, families, lovers, and most intimate friends. If we are not actively seeking to recognize and describe the ways by which we can enjoy true defense against, armor against, the transcendence of and protection against the risks of the various forms of enmeshment---we are very likely to become enmeshed in such dysfunctional patterns of attitudes, emotions, thought and belief; and so be unable to recognize and accept the ways out of the enmeshment which God freely offers to us. The Gospel of the New Testament brought to us by Jesus the Christ, that most famous non-conformist representative of the Creator of the Universe, is about enjoying defense against, armor against, the transcendence of, and protection against the risks of becoming enmeshed with addicts, codependent supporters of addicts and their collusive games of mutual self deception---both inside and outside of our religious organizations. The respected religious leaders of his time showed very little appreciation for Jesus' non-conformist patterns of behavior, belief, and teaching. In the light of the cross, that is putting it mildly! Christian leaders since the days of the non- conformist Jesus have been trying over and over to get their followers back to the pseudo-security of conformists' rules, regulations and alienative judgments. The leader's rules provide the leaders with power bases in terms of which to try to achieve and maintain control; a major preoccupation of addicts and their codependent supporters.
