The real threats to our integrity are not outside of us; they are in the conflicts which have been internalized within ourselves and within our communities---and which we repress, hide, conceal and are silent about. None of our human ideals and values are so great, important, powerful, holy or of divine origin that it is impossible for them to be in disintegrative conflict with other ideals and values which we regard as of secondary importance. Where we see a conflict between the devil and God, there may God be at work seeking to lead us to some higher level of personal and communal integrity through true conflict resolution. No conflict is resolved by repression, hiding, concealing and being silent about it. No conflict is resolved through the use of manipulative: techniques, technologies, weapons, coercion, force, legal tools, moral injunctions, preaching threats or violence. We need to listen when our hearts, minds, souls, bodies and/or spirits point to the presence of conflict within our selves and/or within our communities. To ignore such promptings is to ignore danger signals which call for diligent attention, reflection, prayer, conversation, listening, dialogue, openness, and honesty. Blaming somebody else for such signals resolves no conflict. Blaming our selves for such signals resolves no conflict. Dichotomous thinking, feeling, preaching, intellectualizing and being will not resolve conflicts. Any effort to draw clear distinctions between ourselves and our own as being either superior or inferior to others will not resolve any of our conflicts. Blessed are the children who have not been encouraged to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of who are the good people and who are the evil people. They are spared much internalized conflict which engenders dichotomous analysis, judgements, condemnations, rejections, talk, excommunications, alienation, and disintegration. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
