For example, it does violence to persons and personal relations to judge/accept/reject them exclusively in terms of some legalistic/logical system of categories and analysis. The varieties of languages and categories which may be inappropriately/violently used in describing and dealing with situations may be associated with particular: cultures, professions, institutions, historical periods, geographic regions, ethnic minorities, academic disciplines, religious groups, business communities, political movements, etc. Many highly educated people who are highly specialized, lack self-esteem and self-confidence; and seek to bolster their lacks with fanatical beliefs that their mode of specialization and exclusion somehow makes them superior to other people. They are prone to think and feel that their ways of describing, analyzing and coping with realities and situations are superior to others; and apply to all kinds of realities and situations. They are prone to describe, analyze and cope-with realities and situations in terms of their exclusive language and set of categories, which are inappropriate to many other realities and situations---and so do violence to the other realities and situations, and to the other people who participate in them. It does violence to people and their relationships to describe, analyze and cope with their intimate relationships exclusively in terms of objective/numerical scientific languages and categories; whether the intimate relationships are overtly sexual, or not. It does violence to people and their relationships to describe, analyze and cope with their intimate relationships exclusively in terms of sexual languages and categories; whether the sexual relationships are truly intimate relationships or not. It does violence to people and their relationships to describe, analyze and cope with their spiritual relationships exclusively in terms of objective/numerical scientific languages and categories; whether the spiritual relationships are overtly religious, or not. It does violence to people and their relationships to describe, analyze and cope with their religious activities exclusively in terms of institutional languages and categories; whether the religious activities are overtly institutionalized, or not. Exclusivity does not promote either personal or communal integrity. A pattern of using languages and categories in describing and coping with realities and situations to which the languages and categories are inappropriate---is likely to lead to conflict and violence. The conflict and violence are unlikely to be reduced until the inappropriate pattern is transcended, and a wider range of languages and categories are used in describing and coping with the wider range of realities and situations.
