At the same time our natures and the natures of our communities depend critically upon the nature of HOW we accept/reject that which we do accept/reject; and upon HOW we reflect upon our acceptance/rejection in each instance This includes consideration of what we regard as the essence of acceptance/rejection; our definitions of the word/concepts. WHAT do we accept/reject? 1. Our past histories and life stories. 2. Our presences in the present. 3. Our possible limited futures. 4. Our limits and limitations. 5. Our mistakes and imperfections. 6. The Consequences of our limits, mistakes and imperfections. 7. Our ideas, ideals and values. 8. Our perceptions, namings, descriptions, and communications. 9. Our desires and emotional responses. 10. Our cognitive responses to events and communications. HOW do we accept/reject that which we do accept/reject? 1. Openly and honestly; or collusively and addictively? 2. Explicitly or only implicitly? 3. Individualisticly and/or communally? 4. With an emphasis upon approval, or not? 5. Fearfully, hopefully, confidently, expectantly? 6. Manipulatively, coercively, violently? 7. Humbly, ostentatiously, pretentiously? 8. With clarity or with confusion? 9. With passion or indifferently? 10. Mechanically or responsively? The natures of our lives and relationships depend critically upon the combinations of foci and manners of our acceptances/rejections. We need to give consideration to the many combinations of our foci and manners of our acceptances/rejections which so (and do not) play recognized roles in determining the natures of our lives and relationships. Such considerations will entail reflexive, rather than scientific considerations; due to the natures of reflexive and scientific considerations in relation to the nature of the issues articulated here. How well we give consideration to these issues will depend upon how well we transcend our collusions, addictions and codependencies; and vice versa. How well (healthy/diseased) we are/become will depend upon how well/extensively we recognize, name, describe, articulate, share, accept/reject and discuss (if at all) these reflexive issues. Our integrity and/or disintegration are at stake. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
