When we fail to own those nearest and dearest to us as they truly are, we set the stage for their disintegration; because they will often be unable to be true to themselves with integrity. A failure to own what is truly a part of us, is a sure sign of disintegration; a sign we lack integrity individually and communally. Personal and communal integrity either go together, or decay together; we cannot have one without the other. When we seek to maintain one without the other, we disintegrate. When we pretend that we have (or can have) one without the other, we are well on the road to disintegration; we are not well, we are sick and dis-eased. We can have integrity only when we individually work to promote communal integrity; and when at the same time in the same way, we as communities work to promote personal integrity. Only in such a way can we have and enjoy integrity, for such is the true way of being ourselves with integrity. Our "ways" have to do with at least three different aspects of our lives: the way = path on which we live our various lives, the way = means in which we work hard to try to get our way = goals. Given that the word "way" is used in such confusing different ways, it is not surprising that we are confused about the ways in which we live. We are confused when we think of our way of life only in terms of the technologies, the means, which we use on our way; failing to recognize the attitudes, beliefs, values, ideals, assumptions, convictions, collusions, addictions, and codependencies which define the way in which we live in terms of our technologies. When we live in that way, we are on the way to additional confusion; i.e., on the way of disintegration. The way of disintegration is not merely a matter of what technologies, what means, we use; it is a way of life, a life style. In that way we disintegrate, for disintegration is the life style. Not only do our "Things Fall Apart", we fall apart. When our "Things Fall Apart" we also fall apart as indicated in the book by Acheebe. We cannot hold our things, lives, or selves together, when we treat all things objectively. Objectivity is not the key to integrity. Technologies are not the keys to integrity. There are no fixes which are the keys to personal and communal integrity. To enjoy both personal and communal integrity we must be true to our selves, and to each other person; for such honesty is the key to integrity. Whatever punishes, inhibits, stands in the way of, distorts, perverts, confuses, or otherwise diminishes such honesty, is evil. We may helpfully regard this last statement as both a true description, and as a useful definition; for in truth in our eternal now and knowledge it is always both. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
