     To  say hello in an intimate I-Thou relationship   is
to acknowledge the spiritual presence of another person in
a way which goes beyond objectivity and manipulations. The
way in which such an acknowledgment is made may involve an
objective action,  but it is not just an objective action;
the way involves a spiritual presence which transcends any
objective act or object.  The spiritual presence is not to
be  found in any combination of,  or relationships  among,
purely  objective  realities.  Thus an objective  analysis
will  not  lead the way to any  spiritual  presence  which
might be present.

     Many people  feel  compelled to  deny  any  spiritual
presence,   out  of fear of the loss of their pretense  of
control; a pretense which is of ultimate value to them.

     Many people cannot truly say hello in any intimate I-
Thou relationship which is open and honest.  They react to
each  other's manipulations with reciprocal  manipulations
which entail games of mutual self deception.  They are the
servants   of  their  collusive  games  of   mutual   self
deception. They create, maintain, and serve their games of
mutual  self  deception  as idols which  to  them  are  of
ultimate importance.  In their idolatrous way of life they
cannot truly acknowledge the spiritual presence of another
person, for to do so would entail the risk of exposing the
dishonest  foundations  of  their being.  They  cannot  be
personally present in their times of personal need.

     Technocrats seek to compensate for their inability to
be  personally  present to each  other  through  dishonest
technological  manipulations which are depersonalizing and
resource exhaustive; and so are disintegrative of persons,
communities and environments.  In their frustrations their
manipulations  become disintegratively violent.  They  are
unable   to  resolve  conflicts  honestly  because  honest
resolutions would entail truly acknowledging the  presence
of other persons as person,  and expose their  collusions;
exposure which they ultimately fear.

     Technocrats  seek  to avoid vulnerability,  exposure,
and  loss  of  control;  so they seek  to  avoid  honesty,
personal intimacy and acknowledgment of personal presence.
To  technocrats the dilemmas of daily life  are  technical
problems   to   be  solved  through   various   kinds   of
manipulation of:  objects, people as objects, perceptions,
appearances, relationships, and truths.  All realities are
regarded as objects to be manipulated;  or as raw material
to  be  turned  into objects/relationships  which  can  be
manipulated.  Technocracy is a way of perceiving,   being,
and   relating;   which  is  essentially   dishonest   and
manipulative.

     The  recovery  from  technocracy  is  much  like  the
recovery from alcoholism, addiction and codependency;  for
each  entails the recovery of honesty,  intimacy  and  the
true  acknowledgement of personal presence in the presence
of   the   spirit  which  transcends  objects,   objective
relationships, objective analysis and objective knowledge.
