     The truly great  secretary  exercises great political
power  by    accurately   articulating   descriptions   of
relevant   aspects    of  the  political  aspects  of   an
organization.    The  records as articulated by a  trusted
secretary  often define what really happened;  supplanting
unrecorded memory.

     In  the  addictive  society there is  much  confusion
and repression  of  memory.    The great  secretary  helps
the  addictive   society  through clear  articulation   of
events,    relationships   and   processes;     describing
considerations   and   decisions   in  ways   which   help
participants to recognize the issues  and  the meanings of
discussions/decisions.   The secretary helps to compensate
for  the addictive  society's tendency  to   be  confused,
forgetful  and repressive;    by keeping clear,   complete
and public records of discussions and decisions.

     In  the  exercise  of the duties of a  secretary  not
all   actions   are  totally  prescribed  by  formal   job
descriptions.   The   truly  great  secretary   transcends
technical   job descriptions;    for they may be  designed
by   technocrats  to  manipulate    the   secretary   into
participation    in     the  dishonest     patterns     of
collusions,     addictions   and codependence.   The truly
great  secretary is committed  to recording   the   truth;
that is what makes  her/him  truly great.    The power  of
the truly great secretary resides in the  fact that people
come  to trust her/him  as  recording the   truth  without
bias   or  favoritism;     transcending   the   confusion,
forgetfulness and repressions of the addictive society.

     Often    people  have  regarded  the  duties   of   a
secretary   as    not worthy of respect.   In  fact,   the
secretary by virtue  of the position held is in a position
to  engage in truly great creative leadership.  It is  not
unusual  for  the secretary  to  take initiatives  and  to
prepare   documents  which  clarify  situations  and  keep
events  in memory.  For a person  other than the secretary
to   do  such   things   would  often   elicit   defensive
maneuvers by virtue of  the  actions not  being  expected.
Such defensive maneuvers   are  less likely  to  occur  if
it   is   the   secretary   who    takes    the   creative
initiatives.   The position  of secretary is  thus one  of
great political power.   Healthy  people who want  to make
significant  contributions to the  communal  welfare  need
to keep these facts in  mind as they consider how they may
